I have eaten in the East Street Steak House 4 times in the last four weeks, in groups that average 10 or more (fellas who are experts in eating steak not cooking it Sam!!). Now I, and everyone in the groups that joined me each day described the experience as excellent in almost every way; - The service was perfect, there when needed, always answers to our questions, but always discreetly in the background - The food was perfectly cooked (obviously from fresh), whether requested near raw, very well done or anywhere in between. - Portions were very generous. 8 Lamb Chops in a portion & the Mixed Grill was massive. - Everywhere was modern and clean, particularly the toilets - Ambiance was fantastic with modern but relaxing background music (in fact the waitress very kindly burnt me a disc to take with me!!). - On occasion the main course did take a while to arrive but i) you have to expect this when 14 of you turn up at the same time and ii) don't give the chef a chance by ordering a starter. However, whilst waiting we were kept supplied with complimentary garlic bread.... I went out on a limb, recommending this restaurant to a group of 25 rugby players that travelled to Brighton for a long weekend. I was not dissappointed. We ate there each of the three nights we were in town and I for one will be back there again. Thanks guys for your part in making it a great weekend. By the way, my personal recommendation - The Stroganoff (with chips) - the best I've had. Dom Kelly Hon Secretary Met Police (Hayes) RFC
The place looked nice and the menu looked inviting so we sat and ordered, three of us chose sirloins and the other chicken, now i like mine rare or mooing as i describe usually so off she popped with the order. The service was quick and painless which are all pluses and the food was prompt. But on expection i realised that the chef was an idiot, being a steak chef myself i know what is what,i had asked for a sirloin and received a rump for a start, secondly im not paying £14 for a rump, thirdly i want it mooing and there was no sign of blood and in fact the meat was grey. Two things wrong there,1:its an old peace of meat,2:it was frozen.Folks when you ask for a steak to be rare when you cut through it blood should be running everywhere. As a man of the kitchen i was apalled at the level the food came out we ordered three sirloins and got three rumps which were old and grey and lifeless. From one chef to another, quit now...your cooking skills are zero and you have no culinary knowledge even your chicken was dry,(it came with a sauce)!!!!!!!!You have some gaul calling yourself a steakhouse, you should be ashamed.Step one fire the chef, step two buy fresh meat, step three or give up.......................
We also went on a short break in Brighton and were drawn in by the same things; clean, stylish modern! I think it does what it says on the door! The burgers were the best I have EVER tasted, the chips were great, and the salad was crisp and well dressed. The service was excellent, particularly as they were so busy! We were very impressed and will deinitely return!
This restaurant was absolutely great. The waitress was so friendly and welcoming and the steak was the best i have ever had, cooked to perfection. As a dessert i had apple pie, which was absolutely delicious. It was great value for money too. I recommend this place.
Went here while on a short stay in Brighton as it looked very stylish, clean and comfortable - and we fancied steak and thought it would be perfect seeing as that is pretty much all they do! When we arrived the waiter hovered over us until we ordered while the owner of the restaurant stared at us. Then when I told the waiter I wanted medium-rare steak he couldn't understand what this was and kept asking "medium" or "rare. Following this, the owner then proceeded to take the waiter out the back and reprimand him for this mistake which was unecessary and made me feel guilty and awkward. She then proceeded to watch his every move and throw him a dirty look everytime he did anything - more awkwardness! Next my starter of King Prawns arrived. They were cooked in a marinade but as I had to peel them whole, half the marinade ended up on my napkin. So I was left with dry prawns and salad. Then my boyfriend's steak arrived - was supposed to be well done as he cannot stand to see blood and has an intolerence to rare meat. Of course the steak was rare. Now this may just be me but when a restaurant serves steak and not much else - they can't really afford mistakes here... We asked the waitress to send it back for a bit longer on the grill. It came back 30 senconds later and was still rare. The most professional person in this shambles was the waitress who gave us a free drink each and apologised for the mistakes. Finally I went to pay by card and was informed that the card machine was broken so my boyfriend had to walk to the nearest working cash point 10 minutes away. Interesting night to say the least.
