Founded in 1981, Food For Friends was one of the first vegetarian restaurants in Brighton. A place of change and constant innovation, the restaurant aims to prove that vegetarian food is more than 'just a load of old lentils'.
A favourite of mine, but as a student slightly out of my usual price bracket, but for special occasions Food for Friends would be at the top of my list in Brighton easily. I would definitely recommend the thai platter as a starter: full of rich deep flavours, it has its own twist on traditional thai cuisine. The layout of the restaurant works well as well. The initial space being quite long would have been hard to work with, but by breaking it up there is greater privacy at each table. I especially like the menu's, which are brilliant for the "difficult diner". My mum has a wheat allergy which has caused many a problem in taking her to eat out but at FFF's each dish is labelled clearly, may it be vegan, gluten free or lactose free. Ill be going back again thats for sure! OH and the dessserts are to DIE FOR, leave space.

Well I have walked past here so many times and my partner has never really been in the mood to try it, a confirmed meat eater I am afraid. After much asking on my point we finally agreed to step through the doors. It was a very pleasant surprise in all ways. The dishes were well thought out and the presentation although not over the top was good. The dishes we choose were filling and very tasty, proving that you can enjoy a non meat meal even if you are a confirmed meat eater. Would we go back, may be, it was a good meal over all, not flash but well cooked.Check it out your self and see if it can change your mind .

This is a restaurant where the focus is most definitely on the vegetarian. Its also an organic restaurant so taste is also high on the agenda! There is a wide range of dishes and meals to choose from some you would have heard of before, some you wouldn't! However all are truly delicious and the tastes are amazing! All my friends have reported the same and have also been very pleased with the experience of dining at Food for Friends. Its a wonderful experience and one i would recommend to both vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Prices are about average for a main meal in the area

This is our favourite restaurant in Brighton & we keep going back time and time again. It is situated in the Lanes area, so a great stop off for lunch or mid afternoon tea after a day spent shopping and browsing the Lanes. The big selling point is that it is totally vegetarian and they try to use local and organic produce where possible. It's great for people with allergies as the menu clearly states which dishes are gluten free, lactose free, nut free, vegan etc. Most dishes can be gluten free- just tell the waitress/ waiter when ordering. This was a huge novelty for my partner who is a coeliac & normally has restricted menu choice. The menu varies day to day and season to season and is imaginative and delicious. It is gourmet food but at affordable prices - main courses are around the £10 mark. Check out their website for sample menus. It can get very busy in the evenings, so I'd defintitely recommend you book in advance. For lunch or afternoon tea, you can generally find a table without reserving.
The name, food for friends is how I feel about this place, it is a good place to share time and chat with your friends over a meal that is a little different. There is an express menu available during the week between 12 noon and around 6pm which is good, The starters such as the wonderful dips served with toasted pitta bread come as butternut, cinnamon and pinenut, beetroot and mint and pesto topped houmous. They taste great and get your appetite going. Or you could try the food for friends meze for two which includes a chick pea dish as well as falafel and lots of other tasty treats. It is around £24 and offers good value. Do not be afraid to pop in and try it, you will really enjoy the experience.

Once upon a time FFF's used to be home of large portions, served (as the last reviewer pointed out) school canteen style. With a slop and a drop onto your plate. 'Yum'. On a recent return visit FFF has up'd their game. Gone has the slop and drop technique and a new more de rigueur, dare i say 'fashionable' menu has appeared. Portion size is still splendid. Plus the array of sweets and treats tempt the most meat orientated of palates. And if you sit by the window people gazing is a dream. The wine list is nothing to write home about, so i'd save the tipple for a post triple FFF experience.
