  • 10 Great for lunch

Often there are few surprises with tapas and La Tasca here is no exception but all the dishes are very well-prepared and presented and portions are generous. Service was excellent, nothing seemed too much trouble. I'd certainly recommend for a light lunch but would be equally happy to visit in the evening. And the white Rioja is worth a taste!

I am oing to give la Tasca on north street, brighton four stars, why, well more for the lunch time quickie menu than for what is on offer during the evenings. You need to be a rich man to fill up your belly in the evenings at La Tasca, even with the set meals they have, it still works out as a lot of money and the portions do not always warrant the prices that are charged here. You can sit outside or inside the choice is yours as long as they are not too busy, which they usually are by the way.I think the lunch time menu is called rapido or something like that and it is the one to go for if you can. You gat three tapas dishes and a drink for £8 which is worth it, as the drink alone would set you back a few pounds and can be wine, beer or soft drink. If it is not at your table in 15 minutes you get it all free, be wicked time them.

Have had a bad experience at this branch of La Tasca and am not really sure if I will ever go back again. We took a group to dine here one evening and we have had tapas before and liked it so we thought we would see what it was like here, we know others who like it and went with empty tums and open minds. What a waste of time and money. The service was bad, too busy and the staff were over run with customers. We waited ages for a table and were over looked as 3 other sets of people sat down before us, even though they came in later. The food was really tiny, ok so it is tapas, but we had such small portions that we were all really hungry even though what we ordered had come to around £90 between us, add the cost of drinks to this mini finger food and you have a complete rip of, so try it if you must, but they saw us coming.

Ok, this little chain of spanish tapas bars are all over the place at the moment and they do vary in standard quite a lot. The cosy decor is pretty much the same everywhere in shades of orange, browns and reds and at night when the candles are alight and the place is busy it does give a hint of the costas. The food is tasty but portion sizes do vary a lot and sometimes they are just not very filling. Ok so tapas is spanish snack food, a little taste of lots of things but beware you do need to over order if you want more than a light bite. The set menus are good value of a round £20 for 2 people and you get a selection of dishes, but the lunch time deal at just under £8 is great, 3 tapas dishes and a choice of wine, beer or soft drink to wash it down. The waiter who served us last time was friendly and helpful.

La Tasca is bang in the centre of town and part of a fairly well known chain of tapas restaurants. It is just off the Pavilion gardens. The food is not bad, but can be a bit pricey for what you get. Do not expect to get a filling meal for your money in the evening, even for tapas you do not really get a reasonable amount. If you head in around lunch time they do offers for three dishes and a drink for around eight quid. Service is ok, not exactly stellar. Don’t expect to be blown away. I would recommend trying one of the other tapas restaurants in town first.
