Went to La Fourchette for our staff christmas party on the 17th Dec. Had a great time. The food was out of this world and the service fantastic. One thing...the service charge added on to the bill does not go to the waiters. We left a seperate tip for the waitress as she was excellent. Would definitely dine there again. An excellent night.

  • 6 Good start... poor finish

The date... Wednesday 4th May 2004
The occasion... A friend's 30 somthing Birthday celebration
The staff... The waiters made a good start; taking coats, offering us better seating - excellent!
The starters... excellent!
The mains... the ""2 to share"" dishes were okay for 2 people, but the single dishes were very sparse and left us hungry - our worst order was the ""rack"" of lamb, which was actually 4 pathetic ribs with a sparse vegetable accompaniment.
The desserts... Mmmmm - excellent!
Special touch... the staff brought out a dessert for our Birthday friend, and led a chorus of ""Happy Birthday to you...""
The bill... now here's where it seemed to go wrong - at 10pm we declined coffee and asked for the bill instead... we asked again and again, but the bill didn't arrive until 10.45 - the waiter apologised and said the delay was because the till roll had to be changed, but we were sat for 45 minutes with nothing to drink and no cocomplimentary drink offered. When the bill finally arrived, we collected cash and cards and waited for the waiter, who was chatting to French customers at the next table. I eventually grew impatient and interrupted his conversation with ""Excuse me"". He glared at me for a moment, then ceremoniously apologised to the other table for the interuption and turned back to ask me what I wanted - well it shouldn't have been a surprise that we just wanted to pay - after all, we'd been trying to do so for almost an hour!!
The cost... £43 per head (£28 for the 3-course meal, the rest in wine)
Conclusion... the shared platters were okay, but the food is expensive and the single plates were unsubstantial
